Tritab (Tritab tablets and Tritab for oral suspension) contain the active ingredient
azithromycin, a macrolide antibacterial drug, for oral administration. Tritab has the chemical
Tritab is derived from erythromycin; however, it differs chemically from erythromycin in that a
methyl-substituted nitrogen atom is incorporated into the lactone ring. Its molecular formula is
C38H72N2O12, and its molecular weight is 749.00.
Tritab, as the dihydrate, is a white crystalline powder with a molecular formula of
C38H72N2O12∙2H2O and a molecular weight of 785.0.
Tritab is supplied as tablets containing azithromycin dihydrate equivalent to either 250 mg or 500
mg azithromycin and the following inactive ingredients: dibasic calcium phosphate anhydrous,
pregelatinized starch, sodium croscarmellose, magnesium stearate, sodium lauryl sulfate, hypromellose,
lactose, titanium dioxide, triacetin, and D&C Red #30 aluminum lake.
Tritab for oral suspension is supplied in bottles containing azithromycin dihydrate powder
equivalent to 300 mg, 600 mg, 900 mg, or 1200 mg azithromycin per bottle and the following inactive
ingredients: sucrose; sodium phosphate, tribasic, anhydrous; hydroxypropyl cellulose; xanthan gum; FD&C
Red #40; and spray dried artificial cherry, creme de vanilla, and banana flavors. After constitution,
each 5 mL of suspension contains 100 mg or 200 mg of azithromycin.
Use Tritab as directed by your doctor.
Take Tritab by mouth with or without food. If stomach upset occurs, take with food to reduce stomach
Do not take an antacid that has aluminum or magnesium in it within 1 hour before or 2 hours after you
Tritab works best if it is taken at the same time each day.
To clear up your infection completely, use Tritab for the full course of treatment. Keep using it even
if you feel better in a few days.

If you overdose Tritab and you don't feel good you should visit your doctor or health care
provider immediately. Symptoms of Tritab overdosage: discomfort feeling in stomach, diarrhea,
Store at room temperature between 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F) away from moisture and heat. Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date. Keep out of reach of children in a container that small children cannot open.
