Azenil is a macrolide antibiotic of azalides group. Azenil inhibits RNA-dependent protein synthesis of sensitive microorganisms. It active against gram-positive bacteria: Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus spp. (including Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes group A); gram-negative bacteria: Haemophilus influenzae, Haemophilus parainfluenzae, Haemophilus ducreyi, Moraxella catarrhalis, Escherichia coli, Bordetella pertussis, Bordetella parapertussis, Borrelia burgdorferi, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Campylobacter spp., Legionella pneumophila; anaerobic bacteria: Bacteroides fragilis.

Generic Azenil acts as an anti-infection remedy. Generic Azenil operates by killing bacteria which spreads by infection.

Generic Azenil and other antibiotics don't treat viral infections (flu, cold and other).

Generic Azenil can be successfully taken by children: who are over 1 year old in treatment of community acquired pneumonia, tonsillitis or pharyngitis, otitis media, who have allergy to penicillin.

Use Azenil as directed by your doctor.

Take Azenil by mouth with or without food. If stomach upset occurs, take with food to reduce stomach irritation.

Do not take an antacid that has aluminum or magnesium in it within 1 hour before or 2 hours after you take Azenil.

Azenil works best if it is taken at the same time each day.

To clear up your infection completely, use Azenil for the full course of treatment. Keep using it even if you feel better in a few days.

If you overdose Generic Azenil and you don't feel good you should visit your doctor or health care provider immediately. Symptoms of Generic Azenil overdosage: discomfort feeling in stomach, diarrhea, retching, nausea.


Store at room temperature between 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F) away from moisture and heat. Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date. Keep out of reach of children in a container that small children cannot open.

Macrolides achieve much greater in vivo and clinical efficacy than might be expected from standard in vitro testing. There is accumulating evidence to suggest that macrolides act synergistically with the host immune system. In contrast to beta-lactams, macrolides have increased activity in serum. Phagocytes are a key component of the host immune system against intracellular pathogens. Antibiotics can alter bacterial susceptibility to both uptake and intracellular phagocytic killing. Macrolides appear to enhance phagocyte killing of bacteria whereas beta-lactams have a limited or negative effect. Both macrolides and quinolones achieve high intraphagocytic concentrations that are associated with intracellular antibacterial activity. Azithromycin, which is chemically related to the macrolides, achieves particularly high intracellular levels within phagocytes which may be associated with enhanced synergistic activity.

The susceptibilities of 40 strains of various Mycoplasma species to 10 classes of antimicrobial agents were compared in vitro by a broth microdilution method. The strains tested comprised 20 strains of four AIDS-associated species--M. penetrans (1 strain), M. fermentas (5 strains), M. pirum (6 strains) and M. genitalium (8 strains)--nine strains of the urogenital tract species M. hominis and 11 strains of M. pneumoniae. M. pirum isolates varied considerably in their susceptibility to macrolides (MIC range versus azithromycin 0.0025->100 mg/L). M. fermentans strains were susceptible to the tetracyclines, lincosamides and mupirocin, but varied in susceptibility to aminoglycosides. Most M. hominis strains were susceptible to the tetracyclines and all were susceptible to clindamycin and mupirocin. M. penetrans GTU 54 was susceptible to azithromycin, the tetracyclines and lincosamides as well as to the fluoroquinolones and tiamulin.

The susceptibility to 14 antimicrobial agents and the mechanisms of aminopenicillin resistance were studied in 197 clinical isolates of Haemophilus influenzae--109 isolated in 2007 (study group) and 88 isolated in 1997 (control group). Community antibiotic consumption trends were also examined. H. influenzae strains were consecutively isolated from the same geographic area, mostly from respiratory specimens from children and adults. Overall, amoxicillin resistance decreased by 8.4% (from 38.6 to 30.2%). Beta-lactamase production decreased by 15.6% (from 33 to 17.4%, P = 0.01), but amoxicillin resistance without beta-lactamase production increased by 7.1% (from 5.7 to 12.8%). All beta-lactamase-positive isolates were TEM-1, but five different promoter regions were identified, with Pdel being the most prevalent in both years, and Prpt being associated with the highest amoxicillin resistance. A new promoter consisting of a double repeat of 54 bp was detected. Community consumption of most antibiotics decreased, as did the geometric means of their MICs, but amoxicillin-clavulanic acid and azithromycin consumption increased by ca. 60%. For amoxicillin-clavulanic acid, a 14.2% increase in the population with an MIC of 2 to 4 microg/ml (P = 0.02) was observed; for azithromycin, a 21.2% increase in the population with an MIC of 2 to 8 microg/ml (P = 0.0005) was observed. In both periods, the most common gBLNAR (i.e., H. influenzae isolates with mutations in the ftsI gene as previously defined) patterns were IIc and IIb. Community consumption of trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole decreased by 54%, while resistance decreased from 50 to 34.9% (P = 0.04). Antibiotic resistance in H. influenzae decreased in Spain from 1997 to 2007, but Tricef 100 Mg Alkaloid surveillance should be maintained since new forms of resistances may be developing.
